EL PASO, Texas (KFOX/CNN) - Authorities at a border crossing into Mexico discover more than stain fighting power in one man's laundry detergent box.

They found approximately $52,000 in cash in vacuum sealed plastic bags.

Border patrol agents arrested 36-year-old Edgar Lopez Chavez, a citizen of Mexico, at the Bridge of the Americas crossing.
He was heading into Mexico.

Now Chavez is being held in the El Paso County jail without bond, facing federal prosecution.

According to U.S. law, individuals are allowed to carry any amount of currency in and out of the United States.

But if it's over $10,000 it has to be cleared by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
