CW Star Allie Hartwick learned how to rack up major savings from an expert couponer. Coupons can be a great way for families to save money on everyday needs. Denise Lanarelli runs the coupon directory website Coupons for your Family.com and personally saves upwards of 50% on every shopping trip she takes, but she wasn't always as coupon savvy as she is today.
Denis Lanarelli said “I've always used coupons here and there, you know $20 off my grocery bill but I mean my grocery bill started becoming like $300”
While searching for ways to save money on her family's ever growing groceries, Lanarelli discovered online coupon blogs directing shoppers to various savings.
“I spent one Saturday night, up all night long, and I thought this is great, I can do this, I can save a lot.” Said Lanarelli
From there Lanarelli learned the tricks of the couponing trade, which she says are easy for the average person to use at home.
She said “First of all get a paper every week. If you don't want to subscribe go to the corner store and get a paper”
Inside the paper you can find the inserts which offer new coupons each week.
Then she said “Don't cut coupons right away, cause cutting them is easy to lose.”
Instead, Lanarelli recommends putting the entire insert in dated file folders for later use.
Other than inside your weekly paper, coupons can also be found at various websites and databases such
Coupons also can be found in stores themselves, and often times large chain stores, offer big savings to shoppers.
“ They all have their own coupons, and you can really save because most of those stores will take a store coupon plus a manufacturers coupon on one item.” Said Lanarelli
And it is this killer combination that has led Lanarelli to save 12, 20 up to 60 dollars on all sorts of items.
While Lanarelli has couponing down to an exact science, she recommends people start slowly and work up to a more regular coupon use.
Her advice: “Don't spend too much time, you can get really overwhelmed and print hundreds of coupons and stay up all night like I did the first night, so you don't wanna do that, cause you'll burn out.”
She recommends you take your time, buy only what you need, and most importantly save some money for your family in the process.
