BUFFALO, NY (CW23) -  As we begin to crawl out of our own winter hibernation, and start to get back on our feet many of us will need a little extra help when it comes to getting back in shape. For this little extra support and motivation, we turned to our constant companions, our all knowing buddies – the smart phones in our pockets.

These are the apps that I found and in some cases use to help my stay fit and stay motivated. I’m no personal trainer so what I was looking for were apps that give me the information I needed.

Anyone that is on a mission to become healthy should start thinking about what they are putting in their bodies.  My Fitness Pal is a Calorie and Diet Tracker. You log on, answer a few questions and set goals. It then calculates how many calories you should be eating and gives you a data base of food so when you eat you just type what you had in and it records it and than tell you how many calories you have left for the day. You can also track exercise too.

The next app is all about staying moving throughout the day. Map my walk a GPS powered app that tracks your walking. This is a pedometer with a twist, every time you set out for a walk its going to map your route and how many steps you took.

Now if you’re not one for walks but like to run outside the Nike + running app is perfect for you.
You can set a run schedule and even sync up you music. It will also sync up with your Facebook so that when you finish your run it will post on your Facebook, and let’s be real it feels good to brag a little.

Now you most certainly take your phone to the gym so why not use it to help you get through those tough workouts.

Nike has a great app called Nike Training Camp; it has pre set work out for you. You tell it what you want to work on and how hard you want to work and it tells you what to do. This app appears to be geared towards women but great for men too.

Another app you will want to take to the gym with you is I Fitness Pro. This is a great way to keep track of what you are doing from day to day. This is for the person that wants to watch there progress. It also has a few preset workout that target specific problem areas.
